Dorsey B. Tisdale III.(Local) - The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA)

NORFOLK -- NORFOLK - Dorsey Battle 'Jim' Tisdale III, 80, of the 1800 block of Ramsey Road, died May 3, 2008, in a local hospital.

He was born in Portsmouth, a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk and also graduated from University of Virginia with a BA in biology. He served in the U.S. Army for two years at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, Denver, Colo., as a medic where he met his wife of 56 years, Loeta B. Tisdale and they lived in Denver until they were discharged from the Army. After returning to Norfolk he worked for the Norfolk Health Department as director of housing until his retirement in 1984, after which he worked for the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority as a rehab specialist until his retirement in 1993.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church on Bayview Blvd., Tidewater Sanitarians and was past president of the original group. He was also a past president of the Crossroads Lions Club and had been a member for 55 years.

Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Connie Griffith and her husband Bart of Dripping Springs, Texas; a son, Scott Tisdale and his wife Deborah of Huntsville, Ala.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, to greet friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Christ United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Dan Abbott. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eastern Virginia Medical School for cancer research.
