Norfolk: Walkers and runners can aid arthritis foundation
The Arthritis Foundation will hold its annual 'Jingle Bell Run & Walk for Arthritis' on Nov. 15 at Norfolk Botanical Garden. Registration for the 5K run and 3K walk will begin at 1 p.m. The event will begin with a 'Reindeer Run' at 2:30 p.m., followed by the 5K run at 3 p.m. and the 3K walk at 5 p.m.
Runners, walkers and teams of friends, family or co-workers are still needed. The entry fee is $22 or $10 for children 12 and under. The fee includes a long-sleeve T-shirt, jingle bells and goody bag.
All proceeds from the Jingle Bell Run will be used for prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases. For information or to register, visit www.active.com or contact Donna Adinolfi at 456-1119.
Norfolk: Health department offering flu, pneumonia shots
Flu and pneumonia shots are available from the Norfolk Department of Public Health at several sites throughout the city. It is not necessary to make an appointment to get vaccinated against the flu or pneumonia. Clinics are as follows:
Southampton Clinic, 830 Southampton Ave. Daily from 2 to 4 p.m.
Little Creek Clinic, 7665 Sewells Point Road. Daily from 2 to 4 p.m.
Park Place Clinic, 606 West 29th St. Daily from 2 to 4 p.m.
Berkley Clinic, 925 South Main St., Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m.
The flu shot costs $15 and the pneumonia shot is $20.
Medicare will pay for eligible recipients but patients should bring their Medicare cards. Those with a Medicare HMO will need to go to their primary care physician.

Norfolk: Medical screenings are free at fair on Saturday
Free medical screenings will be offered at a health fair from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Tidewater Chinese Weekend School, located in the lobby of the Batten Arts and Letters Building at Old Dominion University in Norfolk.
Participants may be screened for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and oral disease. Free flu shots will be given to adults. Those who attend also can receive free information about dental hygiene, natural approaches to good health and children's medical insurance. Call 683-4259.

Portsmouth: Coast Guard families to benefit from auction
The annual Angel Fund Auction is set for Saturday at Portside club, inside Integrated Service Command Portsmouth at 4000 Coast Guard Blvd.
The event raises money for needy Coast Guard families in Hampton Roads. Last year's proceeds of $6,400 went toward food, clothing, grocery store certificates, furnishings, holiday gifts for children and a cranial helmet for a child with special needs.
Teacup and silent auctions will begin at 6:30 p.m. Bidding for the live auction will start at 7:30 p.m. Attendees can bid on sporting event tickets, museum and amusement park passes, boat excursions, day spa services, gift baskets and auto detailing.
